Zhanjiang's first batch of lychees this year, which weigh in at 20 tons and are worth 460,000 yuan ($72,238), completed customs clearance procedures at the Zhanjiang Customs Office in Nanyou Wharf and will be exported to the United States.

The lychee is a tropical fruit with a pinkish-red crust and a juicy interior. One of the unique fruits of Western Guangdong, its busiest export season is from May to July every year, and it has strict preservation and storage requirements while being transported.

Zhanjiang Customs employs a 24/7 self-service clearance system to ensure the efficient export of the lychee, which can examine the products automatically and approve low-risk products in seconds. Clearance procedures have also been streamlined to cut delivery time.

However, fast doesn't mean easy. To ensure food safety, Zhanjiang Customs has tightened inspections of exported lychees, ensuring that hazardous or noxious substances were not used during their growth or processing.
