The Jiangsu Fine Bonsai Exhibition opened at Yangzhou's Slender West Lake Scenic Area on April 29, debuting about 50 exquisite bonsai.
Expo-goers are able to enjoy bonsai art in a perfect combination of nature and culture.
Bonsai, which originated in China, first appeared in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and prevailed in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It has a history of more than 1,300 years.
Yangzhou is home to the world-renowned Yangzhou-style bonsai -- a representative and wonderful style. As one of the five major styles of bonsai in China, the comely, quaint, graceful and freehand qualities of the Yangzhou-style bonsai are striking and unique in China and throughout the world.
For this reason, the organizers of the 2013 World Bonsai Conference chose to hold the event in Yangzhou, which expanded the influence of Chinese bonsai and Yangzhou-style bonsai globally.
The species of trees and designs of the 50 exquisite bonsai at the exhibition are distinctive and show skillful workmanship, a bonsai artist said.
