The city of Ordos in North China’s Inner Mongolian autonomous region has proved its popularity with tourism revenue reaching $104 million during the May Day holiday, according to a recent news release by a local media organization.

During the past several days, the city has welcomed 1.27 million tourists, according to the local tourism authority.

In late March, the Ordos tourism authority launched a roadshow in 13 cities in the Yangtze and Pearl river deltas to promote its tourist destinations.

The roadshow was well received as crowds of potential visitors stopped at reception desks to gain further information.

Among all tourist destinations, the Ordos Wildlife Park was the most popular, with 215,500 tourists visiting the venue during the holiday.

The government has also given more attention to the development of the local tourism industry by taking various measures, including opening more direct bus tours and conducting inspections in scenic spots to check for potential dangers to visitors.
