By the end of 2017, Renminbi and foreign currency deposits in financial institutions in Guangzhou reached 5.14 trillion yuan ($810 billion), with Renminbi deposits standing at 4.93 trillion yuan. Loans in Renminbi and foreign currencies in Guangzhou financial institutions totaled 3.41 trillion yuan, with Renminbi loans hitting 3.33 trillion yuan.
As of 2017, Guangzhou was home to 97 domestically listed companies, an increase of 24.4 percent over the previous year. Total market capitalization reached 1.61 trillion yuan, up 25.1 percent year-on-year. Funds raised through securities markets reached 106.6 billion yuan, dropping 31.7 percent from the year before. A total of 19 companies applied for initial public offering (IPO) in 2017 and raised funds exceeding 13.7 billion yuan.

Guangzhou's insurance industry consists of 102 market entities with an annual insurance income of 112.8 billion yuan. Property insurance original premiums hit 25.6 billion yuan, up 19.6 percent from the previous year, while life insurance original premiums totaled 68 billion yuan, up 19.0 percent, and health & accident insurance original premiums stood at 19 billion yuan, down 14.6 percent. In 2017, nearly 27 billion yuan were paid to insurants, up 9.7 percent, with property insurance claims accounting for 47.6 percent, followed by life insurance and health and accident insurance claims, accounting for 40.4 percent and 12 percent, respectively.
