Short-term tours by car or bus to the surrounding areas or natural ecotourism were also of great popularity during the holiday.

Various activities were organized by scenic spots. Taiwan ethnic performances, clematis exhibitions and the “flower fairy” parade were available for tourists at Slander West Lake Scenic Area; performances of guqin (a traditional Chinese musical instrument often called the Chinese zither) were provided at Ge Garden.

Apart from these activities, a series of competitions and festivals held in Yangzhou also met the different needs of tourists, including the 2018 Chinese Herbaceous Peony Festival, the 2018 Tianle Lake Food Carnival and the 2018 Baoying Urban Miniature Marathon.

With the increasing number of tourists visiting Yangzhou, hotels and restaurants were busy. On the first day of the three-day holiday, the occupancy rate of the major starred hotels was 93 percent, a year-on-year increase of 7 percent.

The implementation of “No 3 Document” this year, which is aimed at better serving tourists in Yangzhou, brought great benefits to visitors during the May Day holiday.

Tourists were able get the latest travel brochures for free in the tourist centers and starred hotels; 19 travel volunteer service points were established around the city to provide free publicity materials and tourism consulting services for tourists; assistance and guidance were offered by the tourist police around the clock; traffic diversions were conducted by the traffic police at the entrances and exits of major scenic spots and traffic arteries to guide traffic flow, and multiple free parking lots were set up.
