Jinan University (JNU) is a key comprehensive university listed in the "211 Project" and jointly constructed by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and Guangdong Province. Dubbed as the Paramount School for Overseas Chinese Students, JNU is dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge and caring for overseas Chinese. JNU's core values are loyalty, sincerity, integrity and respect, and it enjoys strong international connections, especially with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

The university remains dedicated to recruiting students from both home and abroad, hiring excellent teachers and making use of advanced teaching facilities. It strives to provide society with skilled workers while also spreading Chinese traditional culture.

JNU signed an agreement with the Zhuhai government in 1998 to build Zhuhai College, which was later renamed to Zhuhai campus of Jinan University in 2009.

Zhuhai Campus has a large collection of research institutions, including 10 institutes and eight laboratories, which facilitate approximately 344 research projects, 23 of which are national-level and 45 of which are provincial-level.

Zhuhai campus has six professional colleges specializing in humanities, translation, international business, electrical information, Internet of Things (IoT) engineering, and packaging engineering. It also has two institutes – one for rail transit and one for IoT and logistics engineering. The campus offers 20 undergraduate majors, with packaging engineering, information security, law, and translation studies standing out, and four professional master's degree authorization stations.  

As of September 2017, Zhuhai Campus had 5,965 students, including 402 graduates and doctoral students, 5,563 undergraduates, and 676 international students.

There are 269 staff members, including an expert from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a scholar from the Thousand Talent Plan, as well as 29 professors.
