The Qingdao Mental Health Center was built in 1958. It is a third-grade class-A specialized hospital with strong technical strength, advanced equipment and a modern scientific management system. 

It is responsible for mental disorder prevention, medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, rehabilitation, judicial identification and foreign academic exchanges in the Shandong Peninsula related to mental and psychological diseases.

The center has a floor area of 17,000 square meters and 700 beds. It has the following six special outpatient departments: elder-care, psychological counseling, insomnia, anxiety and depression, children and methadone treatment maintenance; three psychiatric specialist outpatient wards and 12 clinical departments. 

Its department of psychiatry is the key clinical specialty of Shandong province; its mental health services are key to public medical health in Shandong province; its departments of clinical psychology and geriatric psychiatry are key in Qingdao; and the center's diagnosis and treatment of severe psychosis is a specialty of Qingdao. 

In order to meet the medical needs of the public, a psychological hospital was set up in 2007 at No 32, Anhui Road, Shinan District. It has 60 beds and a group therapeutic room, a VIP interview room, an emotional catharsis room and so on. It is also equipped with sand plate treatment and has the most advanced psychological measurement system in China. It provides a combination of mental and psychological health care with superb technology, advanced equipment and first-class services.
