The China-UK Elite University Boat Race took place in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province on April 11.

The event attracted rowing teams from 10 university teams from across the globe, such as the University of Cambridge in the UK, and Hohai University and Nanjing University from East China.

With the Cambridge team dashing across the eight-kilometer finishing line in less than half an hour, their Chinese competitors from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Tongji University followed closely after and took the second and third places respectively.

Juliette from Cambridge gave thumbs-up to the straight watercourse of the race, as the out-of-curve design, integrated with beautiful local landscapes, giving him a fanciful feeling as if rowing in a picture scroll.

The team from Yangzhou University took the fifth place in the race. Han Yuchen, a lead rower, said their inability to ascend to the top three this time around was due to of the lack of exercise and skills.

"But we do have strength and we will prove it next time," the young leader said.

This was the first boat race held in Yangzhou featuring teams from China and UK's elite universities. The event will promote local water sports, as well help gear up for local green economy and sports industry.
