Yangzhou is to declare a new list of industrial heritages, the local government announced on April 5.

The list will include establishments such as factories, workshops, diggings, and other industrial-related areas built before the year 1980.

An officer from the local economy and informatization commission said the establishments should have distinct industrial features, prominent cultural values, straightened property relations, and more importantly, preserved in good conditions.

The local government carried out a thorough investigation of Yangzhou's industrial heritages in 2016, taking into consideration the city's history as once the center of thriving commerce.

Statistics show that from 1850s to 1980s, Yangzhou was home to 172 enterprises, including the time-honored beauty brand Xiefuchun and various other printing houses, textile mills, pharmaceutical factories, flourmills, and leather factories. Twenty-four of them have been well preserved as industrial cultural values.
