A Shandong maritime trial conference was recently held in the Qingdao Maritime Court.

Fu Benchao, deputy chief judge of the fourth civil trial court of the Shandong Higher People’s Court, reported on the conditions pertaining to maritime trials of the second instance in 2017 and set requirements for a combination of adjustments to solve certain problems.

Another deputy chief judge of Shandong Higher People’s Court also answered several legal questions submitted to the court and the attendees then had a general discussion about problems in trial practice.

Li Wei, vice-president of the Qingdao Maritime Court, outlined the general work conditions of the court.

Li Yong, vice president of the Shandong Higher People’s Court, spoke highly of the work of the Qingdao Maritime Court since last year and put forward requirements for improving the maritime legal system and pushing forward construction of the Supreme People's Court international maritime judicial research center and the Qingdao maritime branch of the National Judges College.

The conference was held to standardize maritime judgments and make the applicable standards explicit. A further purpose was to improve the province's maritime trial level and chart a course for future maritime trial work.

Some other officials from Shandong Higher People’s Court and Qingdao Maritime Court attended the conference.
