Demonstration center for genetic testing comes to N China

The Hohhot government has approved the establishment of a National Genetic Testing Technology and Application Demonstration Center at Horinger New Area, according to an agreement signed in Beijing on April 2.

Hohhot municipal government, Inner Mongolia Horinger New Area Management Committee and Beijing CapitalBio Technology Co Ltd are participating in the joint project.

Vice-mayors of Hohhot Luo Qing and Xu Ruixia, as well as Beijing CapitalBio CEO Xu Junquan, attended the signing ceremony.

The demonstration center will apply genetic testing to such fields as the control of birth defects and chronic diseases, as well as the early prediction, prevention and treatment of diseases.

According to the agreement, the three entities will cooperate in improving the health prospects of newborn infants and lowering the risks of chronic disease.

Hohhot government claims the establishment of the center will promote rapid development of biology and health industries within the region.

On the basis of the genetic testing technology supported by CapitalBio, Hohhot aims to become the first city in China with zero birth defects.
