Nanyang became the first city in Henan province to allow passengers to pay bus fares by swiping their UnionPay chip cards or cellphones starting from April 2.

UnionPay, the country's largest bank card payment processor, offers users a one-package solution ranging from QuickPass bankcards to QR code payment options.

QuickPass is a practical application of near-field communication (NFC) technology. Users  can complete a transaction by placing their bankcards near the reading areas of compatible point-of-sale (POS) terminals or just scanning the QR UnionPay codes.

Such "swipe and go" and "scan and go" payment options are now available on five bus lines in the city, including No 1,3,4,6 and 21, and are expected to cover all 37 bus routes by the end of June.
