Shenzhen-based ZTE makes China's first 5G call

Shenzhen's famous telecommunications and IT company ZTE Corporation announced its success on making China's first telephone call based on 5G technology on April 2.

The first 5G call was made by ZTE and China Mobile Guangdong Branch and it meets the standards set by standardization group 3GGP.

The success marked the beginning of a joint project launched by the two aforementioned parties to conduct outdoor testing for commercial-use 5G technology.

In 2018, more than 150 5G base stations will be built in Shenzhen and Guangzhou and in Shenzhen, a range of important testing will be carried out for the construction of 5G network.

Currently, China is leading the way in 5G development and mapping out 5G commercial use and the country's three major telecommunication operators are busy in carrying out 5G experiments in many big cities to ensure that 5G telecommunication is ready for commercial use by 2020.
