A group of individuals skilled in traditional arts were recently invited to perform for children at Jinhua Primary School in Dalian, Liaoning province.

A selection of traditional local arts, such as Danxian (story-telling to musical accompaniment), traditional martial arts, drum dancing and puppet shows were staged at the campus. Craftsmen demonstrated paper cutting, dough modeling, straw patchwork, blowing sugar-figures, making tiger-head shoes, painting with cereals, and dyeing Shaman.

The folk artists also gave talks to the pupils about the traditional arts, in an effort to promote them to a new generation.

The event enabled the pupils to have a closer look at national and municipal-level intangible culture heritages and explore the charms of traditional culture.

As part of the campaign launched by the provincial government, the event was sponsored by the provincial Department of Culture, and the municipal bureau of culture, radio, film and television, and was organized by Dalian Intangible Cultural Heritage protection center and various local culture authorities of districts and counties.

More than 20 such activities will have been held at different campuses and residential communities by the end of this year.
