A ceremony was held in the Lushunkou district of Dalian, Liaoning province, on March 24, marking the start of construction on a maritime culture industrial park in the area.

Another 10 key projects for the first quarter of this year will also begin construction, said Huang Jian, chairman of the Standing Committee of Lushunkou People’s Congress at the ceremony.

The industrial park is the first of its kind in China and is being sponsored and built by China Kai Shi Group.

With total investment of 4.4 billion yuan ($701.36 million), the project covers an area of 200,000 square meters and a water area of 510,000 square meters, according to Kai Chenglian, chairman of the group.

The first stage of construction will cost 200 million yuan to transform the port and build a tourist service center, with the aim of improving Lushunkou’s capacity to receive tourists for maritime sightseeing.

Lushunkou will make great efforts to promote 54 projects, each with investment above 50 million yuan this year, which is expected to boost the development of the local economy.
