Air France started on March 26 using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for Guangzhou-Paris flights, the first Chinese route flown by the aircraft model with five round-trip direct flights available each week.

Toon Balm, general manager of Air France-KLM Group's Chinese operation, sees high demand for the route and high competition in the aviation market in the Pearl River Delta.

The new aircraft for the Guangzhou-Paris route will make the operation more cost efficient, he said.

China stands as the second largest international market of the Air France-KLM Group, which is the largest European airline in terms of capacity flying between China and Europe.

KLM flies to all its five destinations in the Chinese mainland by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

Air France is launching Paris-Taipei flights on April 16 and will upgrade its aircraft for Paris-Wuhan flights later this year.
