The total length of Nanyang freshly built and renovated artery highways exceeded 1,000 kilometers in 2017. Of them, 281.2 kilometers are built to the first-class roadway standards, ranking first in all cities of Henan province.

According to an executive from the Nanyang Transport Bureau, the city has invested 6.4 billion yuan ($1,016 million) into traffic infrastructure over the past year, 15.8 percent more than planned amount. To bolster itself as a transport hub, it will invest another 9.37 billion yuan into 20 key transportation projects this year.

The planned investment to expressways will constitute up to 6.4 billion yuan worth of the total budget, with another 1.5 billion yuan being committed to common artery roads. Efforts will also be taken to speed construction on roads around the two high-speed rail stations and ring roads outside central urban area.

Meanwhile, Nanyang will integrate the road construction with poverty alleviation and rural rejuvenation strategy. The departments of transportation will harden road surfaces of 60 poverty-stricken villages and 63 relocation sites across the city.
