Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital, also known as the Heilongjiang China-Japan Friendship Hospital, was founded in 1954 and is affiliated to the provincial health and family planning commission.

It is a comprehensive medical institute combining medical services, scientific research, education and preventative health-care. The provincial emergency center is also based in the hospital.

The hospital covers 55,300 square meters and has 2,818 staff members and 2,442 beds, with 56 clinical specialties, nine medical technology specialties, and nine teaching and research offices. In 2017, the annual number of outpatients and emergency visits reached 927,060 and the annual number of patients discharged amounted to 71,151.

The hospital's department of gastroenterology has been listed as national key clinical specialty. Its internal medicine (respiratory medicine), osteological surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, gynecology, ophthalmology, pharmacy, Chinese and Western Integrative Medicine, cardiovascular surgery, general surgery, pediatrics, and clinical medicine departments are rated as key disciplines at the departmental level.

The total equipment assets of the hospital have reached 520 million yuan ($75.45 million), including advanced facilities such as a Siemens dual source CT, a 3.0T MRI, a Siemens three-dimensional DSA, a Siemens S2000 color doppler and automatic biochemical analyzers.
