As the only comprehensive university offering arts in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Inner Mongolia Arts University grew out of the former Inner Mongolia Arts School which was established in 1957 and then was upgraded to the Art College of Inner Mongolia University in March 1987.
The University has contacts with art colleges, art groups and well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad over the years. It has signed cooperation agreements with the University of Vermont, the Vermont Art Center, the University of Illinois in the US, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Mongolia's University of Arts and Culture, the College of Music and Dance, and the National University of Science and Technology.
It signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Kentucky to provide student exchange programs like "2+2" and "3+1". In 2013, it held a "Horse Culture Week".
In addition, the university has hosted art exchange activities in China and the US for more than 10 years. It has also staged performances and exhibitions in countries and regions like the US, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, making great contribution to the expansion of the national culture and the international influence of the autonomous region.
