Three students from Xiamen topped the Chinese teams at the FIRST LEGO League 2017-2018 season game recently held in Singapore, Xiamen Daily reported on March 14.

Guided by two or more adult coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, and are challenged to develop a solution.

They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS, then compete on a table-top playing field.

Themed on HYDRO DYNAMICS, the three-day competition attracted more than 200 teams of students aged between 9 to 16 from 80 countries, including China, the US and Russia.

Before attending the competition, the three Xiamen students did some research on local sewage disposal plants and gained knowledge on how to prepare their robot for wastewater treatment.

After numerous adjustments and practices, their robot finally stood out of other 31 Chinese teams' robots and took first place.
