There are both high speed and regular-speed train services in Guangzhou. Tickets for high-speed trains are divided into business-class, special-class, first-class, second-class, and standing room (business-class and standing-room tickets are available only for a limited number of trains).Tickets for regular-speed trains are divided into high-class soft berth, soft berths, hard sleepers, soft seats, hard seats, and standing room (high-class soft sleepers and soft sleepers are available only on certain trains to priority destinations). Trains generally fall into two categories: air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned. High-speed trains and long-distance trains have food carriages for passengers.

China's rail transport system has rapidly expanded in recent years, providing travelers with an economical, comfortable and speedy means of transport. High-speed trains depart daily from Guangzhou for Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Hefei, Nanchang, Jinan, Xi'an, Nanning, Guiyang, Chengdu, Chongqing and other provincial capitals, arriving at the destinations on the same day, and there are also regular-speed trains heading for other provincial capitals with the exception of Taiwan, Macao and Hong Kong. Train tickets can be booked at the rail ticket offices throughout the city. The ticketing halls at the railway stations sell tickets, accept returned tickets, and change tickets to a different travel date or time. Train tickets can also be booked on the website of the China Railway Customer Service Center (www. 12306. cn) or by dialing 020-12306.

Guangzhou has four railway stations: Guangzhou Railway Station, in Yuexiu District; Guangzhou East Railway Station, In Tianhe District; Guangzhou South Railway Station, in Panyu District and Guangzhou North Railway Station, in Huadu District.

Guangzhou Railway Station primarily provides services to Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guiyang, Lhasa, Urumqi, Nanning, Haikou, Xi’an, Yinchuan, and Ningbo. Guangzhou East Railway Station provides services to Kowloon of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shantou, Kunming, Harbin, Changchun, as well as major eastern Chinese cities along the Beijing-Kowloon Railway and mega-cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. Guangzhou South Railway mainly provides inter-city high-speed train services to Zhuhai and Shenzhen and operates high-speed trains which arrive at their destinations on the same day.
