Bridge to cement Nansha's role as gateway to Greater Bay Area

Nansha district will move one step closer to fulfilling its planned role as a new subcenter of Guangzhou with the completion of a bridge in 2021. The bridge will more closely link it to major cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. 

The 7.8-kilometer Mingzhuwan Bridge, which will run from Wanhuanxi Road in Wanqingsha Island all the way to Humen Lianluo Road, will form a high-speed traffic corridor connecting Nansha with downtown Guangzhou, Hong Kong International Airport, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport and Guangzhou South Railway Station. It will further cement Nansha's role as a gateway to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The project will cost nearly 3.1 billion yuan ($490million) and includes a 2.6-kilometer bridge, an overpass, a tunnel and lighting facilities. Construction work began in early March and the bridge is slated to be open to traffic in August 2021.

According to engineers from the contractor China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group, the main bridge will have three steel trusses which will span over 436  meters. Many new technologies, materials and various other advanced equipment will be used. Difficulties concerning environment protection, geology and safety will also be addressed during the construction process.
