First garbage power plant put into operation

A garbage power plant, built by Hangzhou Jinjiang Group was put into operation at Tumd Left Banner in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Feb 23.

With an investment of 360 million yuan ($56.99 million), the power plant covers an area of 96.26 mus (6.19 hectares).

As the first of its kind in the city, it burns garbage to generate electricity. It has the capacity of handling 1,000 metric tons of garbage every day.

“Currently, there are eight plants that process household garbage, construction waste, kitchen waste, and medical waste. And the city has established a recycling and reusing system for all kinds of waste,” said Feng Zhigang, a spokesman at Administration Law Enforcement Bureau.
