Nanyang welcomed 1.93 million tourists during the Feb 15-21 Spring Festival holiday and made 915 million yuan ($144.21 million) in revenue, up 27 and 28.5 percent respectively from the previous year.
Local star-rated hotels witnessed an increased rate of occupancy, as travel agencies also saw an increase in group tours thanks to the soaring number of activities that were held at tourist attractions in the city. In addition to folk performances and lantern shows, the much-loved temple fairs and blessing activities in local temples also attracted the attention of visitors.
Discounted ticket prices further encouraged the tourist boom, with the Wuduo Mountain, Danjiang Lake and Eight Immortals Cave scenic spots all permitting free entrance during the holiday period.
Other attractions such as Xixia Laojieling scenic spot went with a mixed approach by offering free entrance tickets, half-priced tickets for cableway, and free tickets for children at the ski park.
Furthermore, the integration of internet and tourism has proved to be fruitful, with 80 percent orders for tours being processed online.
