Ordos maintained a prosperous tourism economy with its tourism revenue reaching 360 million yuan ($57 million) during the Spring Festival holiday, an increase of 15 percent compared to last year.

According to the statistics revealed by a local tourism authority, a total of 888,500 tourists visited the city of Ordos during the 7-day national holiday, a staggering year-on-year increase of 28.7 percent.

Recent years have witnessed a growing number of efforts made by the Ordos authority to boost tourism, including developing new tourism projects such as the Ordos Aquarium and Kangzhen Town.

The aquarium opened on Feb 1 and proved popular among visitors, drawing more than 100,000 tourists in total during the holiday.

The Kangzhen Town scenic area held its first New Year temple fair, providing various cultural attractions to visitors. It turned out to be the most popular tourist destination in Ordos during the holiday, welcoming some 180,000 tourists.

The Ordos authority attached great importance to developing winter tourism activities. Before the Spring Festival, the local tourism authority had organized over 70 events, such as the winter Nadam Fair, the winter fishing festival and the ice and snow festival.
