Traditional cheering songs, mainly for festive occasions such as weddings, birthdays and spring sowings in the old days, were reproduced by a group of performers in Changshan county, East China's Zhejiang province on Feb 18.

"In the past, we sang songs at weddings and birthday ceremonies to send good wishes and now the folklore has become an important part of local culture," said Zeng Lingbing, the sixth generation of Changshan cheering songs inheritors.

The cheering songs in the county entered the list of China's National Intangible Cultural Heritages in 2014.

Songs with blessings and sonorous tunes have aroused the interest of the youth. Among the performers, there was a 12-year-old boy Wang Shuai, who has been singing for already a few years.

Teaching children how to sing cheering songs is a great way to help newer generations inherit and promote the folklore, said Zeng.
