The Nanyang Entry-Exit and Quarantine Bureau has recently announced that goods exported to Sudan will be exempted from pre-shipment inspections starting from March 1 in response to the new national policy.

This came as a result of friendly negotiations between the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ), and the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO).

Sudan is the second country to cancel pre-shipment inspection since Egypt, while countries such as Ethiopia, Iran, Yemen and Sierra Leone are still demanding inspections for imported goods.

The GAQSIQ began pre-shipment inspections on industrial products exported to Sudan on Nov 1, 2013 to ensure the quality of all exported industrial product and to crackdown on counterfeits.

The cancellation is not a relaxation of product quality requirements but rather is to facilitate a more efficient processing procedure and offer better services for the convenience of export enterprises.

Statistics from the bureau show that 10 batches of commodities worth around 4 million yuan ($635,417) had gone through pre-shipment inspections over the last year.
