As the concept of recycling economy is becoming more and more of a national reality, Baosteel Zhanjiang has also decided that greener is better. This Chinese steelmaker looks to be one of the largest modernized iron and steel production bases in the world with a focus on low emission and high efficiency.

With a budget of more than 6.5 billion yuan ($1.03 billion), the company intends to integrate a green philosophy into its design, construction, production and circulation processes. Around 116 energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies will be used to meet this goal.

Beyond that, Baosteel will also make significant efforts to phase out outdated production methods and optimize production structures in response to the national strategies of supply-side structural reform and innovation-driven development, said general manager Liu Daide.

It comes to little surprise that the company's emissions were far lower than the national standard, due to Baosteel's low rate of solid waste and use of secondary resources.

Moreover, Baosteel Zhanjiang is also China's first modernized iron and steel enterprise to comply with special emission standard of air pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide, oxynitride, particulate matter and volatile organic compound.

As a major auto and household appliance producer, Guangdong province has long had a huge demand for steel. With an annual output of 8.47 million tons, the company, which began operation in 2015, came just in time to meet this demand.

Due to Zhanjiang's geographical location, it also enjoys the shortest maritime routes to Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania, allowing Baosteel Zhanjiang's easy access to nations in these regions.
