The first Shenyang Paper-cutting Festival was unveiled in Shenyang, Northeast China’s Liaoning province on Feb 3, in a bid to mark the approaching Chinese Spring Festival, which falls on Feb 15 this year.

Jointly sponsored by the government of Huanggu district and Shenyang’s cultural promotion bureau, the festival is the largest of its kind held in Northeast China.

It has attracted around 500 craftspeople from Beijing, as well as Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces and Fushun, Dandong, Yingkou, Liaoyang and Tieling cities.

Over 3,000 paper cuttings involving elements of the Manchu, Xibie and Korean ethnic groups are being exhibited in Shenyang, helping to promote a warm and festive atmosphere.

In addition to visiting paper-cutting exhibitions, the festival also provides people with the opportunity to make their own paper cuttings under the guidance of skilled craftspeople. Mudan, Mingbei, and Wugongshan residential communities in Huanggu district are open for visitors.
