Xiamen Marine Research Center plans to establish a research and development base in Xiamen, the coastal city of Fujian province, Xiamen Daily recently reported.

The R&D base is projected to cover an area of about 4,700 square meters with a total building area of more than 14,000 square meters, 11,700 of them above ground.

The base will be home to an incubation center for marine industry, a pilot laboratory for seafood, public laboratories, and maker spaces.

According to the head of the marine research center, it will provide the new marine base with public service, scientific research and innovation, industry incubation, and sci-tech achievement trading services to offer scientific research and startup teams one-stop support.

The Xiamen Marine Research Center was founded in November 2012 by China's State Oceanic Administration, the Fujin Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries, and the Xiamen municipal government.

Numerous local marine economy projects carried out by the center have promoted the rapid development of the city's blue economy.

The R&D base established by the research center is expected to attract talents in the marine industry and advance the industrial production of marine sci-tech achievements.
