Finland, Xiamen to strengthen legal cooperation

Han Jingyi, vice mayor of Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, called on Xiamen and Finland to strengthen legal cooperation for mutual benefits.

Han made the remarks during a meeting with Antti Häkkänen, minister of justice of Finland, on Jan 31.

Han briefed his guests on Xiamen's natural, cultural and business environment, industrial development, economic and trade exchanges with Finland. Han also introduced his city's progresses regarding community sanctions.

For his part, Häkkänen expressed his gratitude for Xiamen's warm welcome. He agreed with Han that community sanctions play a vital role in creating a safe social environment, adding that he wishes to cooperate with Xiamen in the sector.

The China-Finland Community Sanctions Development Seminar was held for two days on Jan 31 and Feb 1 in Xiamen, as part of the eighth round of cooperation and exchanges between China and Finland's ministries of justice. Häkkänen and Liu Zhenyu, vice minister of China's Ministry of Justice attended the event.

The seminar discussed three issues — laws concerning community sanctions, cooperation between government organs, and public involvement in community sanctions. The two countries also exchanged successful experience and cases in conducting community sanctions, in order to promote exchanges and cooperation in the sector.
