Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport will operate an additional 3,500 flights, including 22 cross-strait charter flights, to meet high travel demands during the Spring Festival travel rush from Feb 1 to March 12.

During the 40-day rush, the airport will service an estimated 55,000 planes and 8 million passengers, an increase of 5.17 and 8.2 percent, respectively, compared with the same period last year.

Individual airlines will take measures to cope with the upcoming surge in passenger traffic as well. China Southern Airlines, for example, recently increased its number of wide-body airplanes by 14 percent. Companies will also operate more flights from Guangzhou to Southeast Asian countries to meet international travel demands.

The Guangzhou airport has also enacted measures to provide better services and safer, more convenient flights for passengers. A total of 38 service counters will be set up in the airport terminal to help passengers solve problems efficiently and deal with emergencies.

Furthermore, the airport will strengthen landside transportation, ensure better public security and carry out detailed examinations of airport systems such as luggage sorting, lighting, and water and power supply systems.
