The city of Ordos has registered 685 new energy vehicles in the past month, ever since license plates for new energy vehicles were officially launched in the city last year, according to the local vehicle management station.

Since Dec 20, 2017, the cities of Ordos, Hohhot and Baotou in Inner Mongolia autonomous region have been able to provide drivers of new energy vehicles with the new license plates.

By Jan 20, 2018, a total of 685 license plates had been issued to residents who own new energy vehicles. Among the license plates that have been issued, 123 were for larger vehicles and the remainder was for small vehicles.

Compared to ordinary license plates, the new license numbers have an extra digit, and the letter on the license plate identifies the type of vehicle. For instance, the letter “D” is for blade electric vehicles (BEV), while the letter “F” identifies a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) or fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).

The position of the letters on the license plate is also significant. Small vehicles have the letter “D” or “F” at the beginning of their license plate, while the letter is at the end on license plates for larger vehicles.

As regards to the lack of charging piles for the vehicles, Dongchang Energy Co will be building 21,243 charging piles in Ordos over the next five years.
