Nansha district holds sugarcane-themed cultural festival

The second Nansha Ecological Tourism Cultural Carnival and the fifth Sugarcane Cultural Festival got underway in Nansha district of Guangzhou on Jan 13.

Held in Lanhe town, home to renowned Chinese musician Xian Xinghai, the events featured art exhibition, sugarcanes auction, saxophone performance, riding of shared bikes and a catwalk show.

Lanhe town has a long tradition of planting sugarcanes and people in Guangzhou have a special feeling towards this very plant, according to one participant of the event who also said the name of the plant can be found in some of Guangzhou's time-honored sayings.

During the past few years, Lanhe town has launched a raft of projects to beautify its villages and improve living environment, according to Deng Yaoqi, deputy head of Nansha district. The events provided a great opportunity for visitors to undersatnd about the town's premium ecological tourism resources and will promote the development of the town's tourism industry.

The contract-signing ceremony of a project aiming to build Lanhe town into a special music town with great cultural innovation and influence was also held on Jan 13.
