Nanyang took the lead in Henan province for exports of food and agricultural products during 2017.

Exports worth 7 billion yuan ($1,073 million) were exported from the city, according to the Nanyang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau –– 17.3 percent more than in 2016.

To further boost exports of food and agricultural products, new items are being marketed by the city, including tea, vegetables and fruit powder.

Nanyang sold tea worth 210 million yuan ($32.15 million), vegetables worth 180 million yuan, and fruit powder worth 90.48 million yuan, according to local news portal 01ny.cn.

The local government has worked hard to encourage the development of new products for export, while protecting local companies, and promoting the development of new brands. A public service information platform has also been created.

When local firms intend to export their food and agricultural products overseas, they are able to receive financial assistance from the local government, and the number of companies involved in exporting related products was the highest in Henan province for 2017 –– 145 companies, compared to just 26 in 2016.

Many local brands like Xixia mushrooms, Xixia kiwifruit and Xinye beef, are well-known worldwide. Forty-five percent of exported edible mushrooms are deep processed and their exports increased by 21.9 percent during 2017.
