Sanyang Plaza Station of Wuxi Metro ranked first with full marks in the 2016 report of China Urban Rail TOD (transit-oriented development) Development published at the end of 2017.

In urban planning, a transit-oriented development (TOD) is a type of urban development that maximizes the amount of residential, business and leisure space within walking distance of public transport.

A TOD typically includes a central transit stop (such as a train station, or light rail or bus stop) surrounded by a high-density mixed-use area, and is designed to be more walkable than other built-up areas.

Followed by Xinjiekou Station of the Nanjing Metro and People's Square Station of the Shanghai Metro, Sanyang Plaza Station of the Wuxi Metro was praised for its scientific and convenient planning.

A total of 27 exits in Sanyang Plaza Station link up all parts of the city's downtown. Twenty-three of them have already-opened connecting popular shopping malls including Suning Plaza, Center 66 and Wuxi Commercial Mansion. They also give convenient access to Lianyuanjie primary school. Twenty-five bus lines around the station add to its convenience.

However, compared to Nanjing and Shanghai, Sanyang Plaza Station has better utilized its internal resources to provide more retail outlets.
