Wuxi to pursue high quality development

Wuxi government's main target should be high-quality development in its current and future works, Party secretary Li Xiaomin said in his speech at the opening ceremony of the second session of the 14th Wuxi Municipal committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held on Jan 6.

Why does Wuxi need to pursue high-quality development?

Since Wuxi has reached a one trillion yuan GDP, only to pursue a high-quality development can the city maintain a steady economic growth, achieve the goal of building a moderately well-off society in an all-round way, and satisfy the demands of its citizens for a good life.

How to achieve high quality development?

Improve industrial structure

The municipal government should promote the integrated development of real economy, technological innovation, and modern finance, and construct a modern industry system with Wuxi features which meets the needs of modern economic development.

The government should advance the formulation and implementation of policies regarding the financial industry's support for real economy so as to provide it with efficient and low-cost financing service and to further promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.

Enterprises should be encouraged to invest more in scientific research to enhance their capability of independent innovation; meanwhile, they should also seek more cooperation with local universities and research institutes to achieve mutual development.

Promote coordinated development between rural and urban areas

The local government should construct an efficient system for coordinated development between rural and urban areas to achieve common development.

The government should continue to renovate the old town and accelerate the construction of Taihu new city – Wuxi's new downtown while the government should also guide more resources to the rural areas to increase the vitality of rural areas.

Construct a more habitable ecological environment

The government should focus on the treatment of waste water, solid waste and exhaust gas and launch a new round of comprehensive improvements in watercourses and the pollution treatment of Taihu Lake.

Green production method should be advocated and the outdated one should be eliminated to alleviate burdens on ecological environment.

The protection and restoration of rivers, lakes, forests, and grassland should be steadily advanced and the Taihu Lake ecological protection circle and the Yangtze River ecological safety zone should also be actively established.

Enable citizens to live a happy life

The government should increase its financial investment in projects involving citizens' livelihood and solve the troubles local citizens may encounter in their daily lives, such as bumpy roads, random parking, and noisy construction sites at night.

The government should help low-income citizens and poor villages get rid of poverty, narrow the income gap, and establish a complete working system for the vulnerable groups, including people with serious illnesses and disabilities.

The cultural establishment and legal construction should also be given great importance so as to render local citizens with a more colorful and safer life.
