Muyuan Group's "5+" poverty alleviation model was recognized as a Livelihood Demonstration Project at the 5th China Livelihood Development Forum held in Beijing, capital of China on Dec 28.

More than 1,000 livelihood projects were selected by the Organizing Committee of China Livelihood Development Forum. The shortlisting involved the analysis of online polls and evaluation by a team of scholars, experts and media representatives.

The model, which was first adopted by Nanyang's Neixiang county, has seen widespread success due to the efforts of Muyuan Group, Neixiang government and the Nanyang Branch of the China Development Bank.

The "5+" model works by bringing the government, enterprises, banks, cooperatives and the impoverished together with the aim of tackling poverty. It hopes to achieve this goal by assisting impoverished residents in finding a steady, low-risk source of income.

Given the achievements of the "5+" model, it has subsequently been deployed to another seven provinces and 15 counties, to the benefit of 75,165 households under the poverty line. Those living in the counties of Neixiang, Sheqi and Ningling have already received their first dividend.

Furthermore, Qin Yinglin, president of Muyuan Group, received the Commitment Award for Poverty Alleviation. Muyuan Group was also designated as an advanced private enterprise in a campaign utilizing enterprises to drive rural development.

Serving as a good example of how poverty can be combated, the model has even caught the attention of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), who wants to create a sustainable development demonstration zone in Neixiang.
