Round-city kayak contest started in Wuxi

The 2018 China Paddle Round-city Kayak Contest, the first event of the Winter Tourism Season, was held on the canal in Wuxi on New Year's Day.

Fifty enthusiasts took part, paddling 11 kilometers on the historical canal. Instead of just trying to come in first, competitors collected garbage in the river for charity and a better environment.

On the evening of the first day of the New Year, a grand rock concert featuring Chinese singers and bands was held at Canal Culture Gallery Square.

Themed on enjoying novelties, the Winter Tourism Season runs from Jan 1 to March 2, and includes three major festivals in China – New Year's Day, Spring Festival and Lantern Festival.

During the two-month event, folk culture activities such as intangible cultural heritage and folk handicrafts exhibitions are expected to be held at local scenic spots. There will also be lectures on folk culture.

Other recreational activities, including flower shows, a Lantern Festival riddle contests, and traditional Chinese musical instrument concerts will also be organized to create a strong festival atmosphere.
