Xiamen's Tourism and MICE industries net $21 billion in 2017

The tourism and MICE industries generated 140 billion yuan ($21.1 billion) in Xiamen, Fujian province in 2017, according to Xiamen Municipal Tourism Bureau.

The tourist income in Xiamen has amounted to 116 billion yuan ($17.5 billion), a 19.8 percent increase year-on-year and its MICE industry (meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions) has generated 37.6 billion yuan over the past years.

Xiamen received more than 780 million visitors over the past year with an increase of 15.2 percent year-on-year.

In 2017 the exhibitions held in Xiamen attracted 1.7 million out-of-town participants with a total area of 2.2 million square meters.

The city's all-for-one tourism has seen rapid development over the past year with a more complete public service and improved tourist distributing centers, while 49 toilets at scenic spots have been built and renovated.

With the help of the BRICS Summit held in Xiamen in 2017, Xiamen will focus on promoting "post BRICS era" to expand the market of tourist and MICE industries and develop a high-end MICE industry.

Xiamen's tourist and MICE industries reached 100 billion yuan for the first time in 2015.
