Travelling time from Guangzhou to Shenzhen and Dongguan has been cut in half from 40 minutes to just 20 minutes with the opening of the Fengle Road Tunnel on Dec 31.

The tunnel is the second significant phase of the Huangpu Avenue restoration project which consists of three tunnels including the Gangwan Road Tunnel, Fengle Road Tunnel and Shihua Road Tunnel.

The newly opened tunnel has eight lanes and greatly reduces the traffic pressure of Huangpudong Road during rush hour. It offers a shortcut among the areas of downtown Guangzhou, Huangpu district and Guangshen Yanjiang Expressway.

The Gangwan Road Tunnel opened to traffic on July 29 last year and the Shihua Road Tunnel, according to insiders, will be put into use in April this year.
