Yantai woos talents to fuel innovation-driven growth

Yantai, Shandong province recently unveiled guidelines on speeding up innovation-driven development, which specifies several preferential policies to attract more than 100,000 top talents by 2020.

The city plans to offer rewards of up to 5 million yuan ($756,000) to employers of top talents. As to qualified top talents or teams with top talents, Yantai will provide financial support of up to 100 million yuan.

The city will hold talent attraction activities abroad and encourage talent, technology and project exchanges with overseas organizations, and offer support of 500,000 yuan to those who have made remarkable achievements in attracting foreign talents.

About 20 leading figures who have promoted technology innovation and entrepreneurship will receive rewards of up to 1 million yuan.

To help talents master professional skills, the city will provide rewards of 10,000 yuan, 30,000 yuan, 50,000 yuan and 100,000 yuan to winners in professional skills competitions of municipal, provincial, national and international level respectively. The city will sponsor more than 20 professional skills competitions in a year with at least 500,000 yuan. It will also offer 1 million yuan to build training centers for participants of international professional skills competitions.

By 2020, the city will provide at least 10,000 apartments for top talents in the city proper and counties under its governance.

The city will provide 1 million yuan to encourage qualified high education institutions, enterprises and industrial parks to establish talent service centers to help attract more high-caliber talents.
