Food industry

Yantai had 487 food enterprises above designated size in 2015, generating revenue of 197 billion yuan ($29.83 billion) from their major businesses, with a year-on-year increase of 11.6 percent. The farm and sideline food processing industry contributed 141.19 billion yuan to the total revenue, the food manufacturing industry contributed 21.49 billion yuan, and the alcohol, beverage, and tea making industry contributed 34.32 billion yuan. The profits made by these food enterprises this year were 16.69 billion yuan, up by 16.4 percent year on year.

In 2015, the city had 13 state-level key agricultural industrialization enterprises, 58 provincial-level enterprises, and 106 national food industry excellent enterprises.

There were also 18 high-tech enterprises in the city's food industry, five state-level enterprise technology centers, 14 provincial-level ones, and 11 municipal-level ones.

One project of a local food company won the second prize of the State Technological Invention Award. And five projects of six companies won the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award.

Moreover, Yantai's food brands "Changyu", "Luhua", "LongDa", and "Grand Dragon" ranked among the Top 500 Chinese Most Valuable Brands in 2015. At a Chinese brands value evaluation information conference, Yantai's wine ranked 2nd in the group of alcohol and beverage geographical indication products, while apple ranked 2nd in the group of primary agricultural geographical indication products. By the end of 2015, the city had 30 state-level famous trademarks.

The city's foreign trade volume in 2015 totaled $5.41 billion, increasing by 4.2 percent year on year, among which the exports amounted to $2.98 billion. The Yihai (Yantai) Grain and Oil Co, Longkou Xinlong Grain and Oil Co, and LongDa Food Group were included in the Top 100 Foreign Trade Enterprises in Shandong province in 2015. And the city's Changdao county, Laiyang, Zhaoyuan, Penglai, Qixia, and Longkou county-level cities have been approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine as state-level exported food and agricultural products quality and safety demonstration zones.
