Electricity industry

The main driving forces of the Baotou electrical industrial cluster are the Hexi Electric Plant and Donghua Electric and Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner Wind Electricity. Power supply points are rationally distributed. It makes efforts to transform the local resources and west-east power transmission, with due regard for water and other environmental protection areas. The electric development makes good use of high technology and advanced techniques and equipment to reduce source pollution, strengthen the comprehensive utility, improve the resource utilization rate, avoid or reduce pollution emission, save new water resources, and achieve recycling of industrial water.

Baotou has a total installed power capacity of over 8 million kilowatts. Its wind power generation is 11.56 million kilowatts, with another 15.48 million kilowatts under construction. A total of 2.21 million kilowatts of solar power generation is also under construction.

In the first three quarters of 2017 the electricity industry increased by 18.9 percent compared with the same period last year.
