Public book cupboards have been made accessible to residents in Ejin Horoo Banner, Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to an announcement by the local government.

Initiated by the local government, the book cupboards program is run by the Library of Ejin Horoo and 100 other organizations, with the aim of encouraging public reading.

The program is called “anda drifting book cupboards”. Anda, the Mongolian word for brothers, is used as part of the program’s name, reflecting the wish that residents can share knowledge as brothers.

The book cupboards are situated in places where a large number of people may visit, such as parks, squares, communities, hospitals, airports and scenic sites. People can take a book for reading, or exchange it with one of their own.

Each book cupboard contains around 30 books covering politics, economics, science and numerous classics.

More book cupboards are expected to be added soon.
