Dispatched at Wanshengwei, Pazhou and Canton Tower stations, the smart robots, each named Yoyo, are equipped with facial and voice recognition software so that they can communicate with passengers and provide information about subway transfers, ticket prices, train schedules and entrance and exit details.

According to the organizers of the Fortune Forum, more than 1,000 staff members from Guangzhou Metro will serve a total of 8 million passengers every day during the event.

The robots, which are being run as a trial, will collate the most frequent inquiries raised by passengers so they can upgrade their databases to provide better services in the future. The robots will serve the subway until Dec 20.
