Wudang Lamasery

Suguqin Hall:

Built in 1757, Suguqin Hall is the biggest building in Wudang Lamasery and sits in the forefront of the temple. The front hall is used for recitation of sutra, and houses a Sakyamuni statue and 31 Bodhisattva statues in its center. Frescos depicting Sakyamuni's life story appear on both sides of the hall, which acts as the temple's gathering place.

Dongkuo'er Hall:

Built in 1749, Dongkuo'er is the central building of Wudang Lamasery and was the place for the teaching of astronomy, geography, divinity, the calendar and mathematics, earning it the name Auspicious and Mathematics School. Every March 15, an academic exam took place there, with both examinees and examiner standing on a spacious platform in front of the hall. The examiner posed questions the examinees would attempt to answer while arguing with each other.

Queyilin Hall:

Built in 1835 and second in scale only to Suguqin Hall, this building was a place for special instruction in doctrine, and was therefore known as the Religion Department or Philosophy School. The tallest bronze Sakyamuni Buddha statue in Inner Mongolia stands in this hall and reaches 10 meters.

Ahui Hall:

Built in 1800, Ahui Hall was a center for medical education and became known as Medical Department or Medical School. Two wings - Esoteric Recipes and Medicine - were established there. The 18 arhats and the four deva-kings of the four quarters statue, a steep clay sculpture cave, apothecary Buddha, Amitabha and White Tara are all worshipped in the hall.

Rimulun Hall:

Built in 1892 to house a Doctrine Department and study hall for Lamaist history, doctrine and canon, Rimulun Hall contains a 9- meter- tall bronze statue of Tsongkhapa, the largest statue on this subject in Inner Mongolia. One thousand small statues of Tsongkhapa are displayed in the two areas upstairs and downstairs.

1. Direct bus (Only on Saturdays and Sundays):

(7 a.m.) Kunqu Long-distance Bus Station → (7:30 a.m.) Gong Roundabout(宫环岛) → (7:40 a.m.) Baotou Medical College → (8 a.m.) Baotou Bus Station → (one hour) Wudang Lamasery

2. Route by bus:

Take the bus No 7 from East Bus Station of Baotou (about one hour), get off at Shiguai Station and take a taxi to Wudang Lamasery.

Bus No 7: interval - 20 minutes; from 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

3. Route by car:

Downtown (eastward) → G210 → S211 → S50 → Shaming Line (12 kilometers) → X076 → Wudang Lamasery
