The International Lacquer Painting Art Exchange Center was inaugurated in Xiamen, Fujian province on Nov 24 to explore new ways to trade artwork at Chinese pilot free trade zones.

The center is the first original art exchange platform to be established in a pilot free trade zone in China, integrating production, education and research.

The center's first exhibition began the same day as support activity for the 2017 China (Xiamen) Lacquer Painting Exhibition held from Nov 23 to Jan 11 next year.

The exhibition will be open free for one month during which numerous Chinese lacquer painters are expected to be invited to share the creations with countless visitors.

Some 72 works of art from nine renowned Chinese lacquer painters are currently on display with distinctive artistic styles, covering different techniques such as concretization and abstraction.

The exchange center will integrate creation, exhibition, authentication, trade, training, and collection of lacquer paintings, gathering outstanding lacquer painters from home and abroad to make the art form a name card for Xiamen.

Lacquer paintings traditionally depict natural settings and feature the use of gold, silver, eggshells, wood chips and other materials.
