Yantai's wine industry becomes destination for wine and business tourism

The Changyu wine culture tourism area in Yantai, Shandong province, has been included in the list of ten national-level industrial tourism demonstration sites designated by the China National Tourism Administration, according to an announcement on Nov 21.

Industrial tourism refers to visits to sites which showcase a particular type of expertise from the past, present or future.

The inclusion of Changyu as a wine culture tourism area on the list is attributed to its rich resources such as the International Wine City built in 2008 and Changyu Wine Culture Museum built in 1992.

Changyu International Wine City is a sprawling complex that functions as both a modern production facility and tourist resort. It houses a wine research institute, a wine production center, chateaus, vineyards, a European-style wine village and a wine trading center.

Changyu Wine Culture Museum is the first of its kind in China. The museum consists of a large cellar that stores hundreds of neatly arranged oak barrels and an exhibition hall. Changyu wine has a history of over 100 years; visitors can learn more about Changyu wine through its exhibits in the hall.

The recognition from the country's top-tourism body will help promote wine culture and boost the profile of Yantai as an "international vine and wine city".
