Sino-Russia seminar on rock art opens in Hohhot

Experts and scholars from home and abroad discuss the research achievements of rock art at the 2017 Sino-Russia Rock Art & Archeology Seminar held in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. [Photo/honder.com]

The 2017 Sino-Russia Rock Art & Archeology Seminar, hosted by Hongde College of Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU), was recently held in Hohhot.

More than 14 experts and scholars from the China Rock Art Academy, the China North Rock Art Research Institute, the Inner Mongolia Museum, and the Institute of Archaeology at the Russian Academy of Sciences participated in the seminar.

Wu Jiacai, director of the China North Rock Art Research Institute introduced the discoveries and research achievements at Hongshan Culture sites in Inner Mongolia.

"Rock art is a witness to the civilizations in prehistoric times and the research on rock art is of vital importance for studies of the development of human society," said Chen Yongzhi, president of the Inner Mongolia Museum, at the seminar.

Ekaterina Devlet, director of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, detailed the areas that often contain rock paintings and analyzed the reasons.

Experts attending the seminar agreed that it would have far-reaching significance in the protection and research of rock paintings and preservation of rock art.
